A Year Of Colors {October}

Wednesday, December 10th, 2008

There are so many reasons that I love Autumn and nothing beats a day at the Cider Mill. October in Michigan is usually filled with mild temperatures, warm sunshine, beautiful leaves on the trees and delicious cider and doughnuts. It is a tradition that I think would make for the perfect “theme” behind a wedding day. What would be better than a make-your-own caramel apple bar, or a warm cider based signature drink?

A Year Of Colors {June}

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

I know I have said it for every month, but June is a fabulous time for a wedding. The beginning of Summer, the green grass and leaves on the trees. Full days of sunshine, warm weather (but not too hot!) and the relaxing feeling that only this time of year can bring. My picks for the perfect June colors? Purple and green. Two of my favorite colors!

Find Your Place.

One of my favorite details of every wedding days is the paper products. I am admittedly obsessed with all things pretty, especially when it comes to stationery. Some of the best details can come in the form of invitations, table numbers and escort cards. Here are a few VERY creative ideas for your escort cards.

A Year Of Colors {May}

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

May is my favorite month of the year! My birthday, three of my friends’ birthdays, my sister’s birthday and the real beginning of Spring all take place in this fabulous month. The colors I picked for this inspiration board are fresh and remind me of the green grass, the blue skies and the anticipation of beach days.

A Year Of Colors {April}

Sunday, November 16th, 2008

To me, April means the beginning of spring. What color is better suited for spring than yellow? I am in love with the yellow and black color scheme and I think that it is the perfect contrast for a chic and elegant Spring wedding.

What to do after you say “I Do”

Thursday, October 9th, 2008

So, you have finally tied the knot and have a dozen centerpieces on your hands. You spent all this money on something that is going to go to waste after your big day? What next? Here are some of the best ways to get rid of all those leftovers without letting them go to waste.

1) Donate your flowers to a nursing home. Nothing can brighten someone’s day quite as much as a simple bouquet of flowers. Imagine the look on their faces when the get a special delivery right to their very own door.

2) Give a little floral inspiration to your favorite people. Have your centerpieces sent to someone who couldn’t be there to celebrate your wedding day with you. Maybe it is a great-grandmother or a distant cousin. If the flowers are still in good condition, have a sibling or friend drop them off for you, or even have them delivered. These missing guests would appreciate being included even though they couldn’t make it. They’ll feel like they were genuinely missed.

3) Do you know of a battered women’s shelter or a children’s home? Your used flowers could become something new in the eyes of those who could use some spirit lifting.

4) A local hospital would really appreciate the gift! Think about how you’d feel being stuck in a hospital room for a few days or even weeks. The children’s ward could always use the burst of color and a cancer wing will be decorated with smiles after your delivery.

5) Sell them. I know, this isn’t the most charitable way to get the best out of your purchase, but you may have vases, candle holders, extra ribbon, etc. I am sure someone else needs whatever you are getting rid of, so why not make a profit? Ebay, Craigslist, local newspapers and even some wedding related forums and boards can be great resources for this.

6) Have them preserved. There are many companies that will turn your bouquet into a work of art. Keep these flowers as a reminder of the beautiful day that you shared your vows. These fabulous pieces of art can last a lifetime!
