I am so lucky to have grown up in the area where I did. It is a town filled with charitable people and heart warming families. The Passion for Life 5K Run/Walk benefits U of M C. S. Mott Children’s Hospital and the Walled Lake Central Track and Field program. The Passion for Life 5K Run/Walk is a non-profit organization and was founded in 2008. The decision to support U of M C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital arose in 2008 when a Walled Lake educator and coach recently had given birth to a daughter with heart complications. Sydnie Guttovz and her family were the first Inspirational Family for our event. Every year, there will be one family in our community chosen as our Inspirational Family and the proceeds from our event will go towards that family, medical research at U of M Mott Hospital, and Walled Lake Central’s track and field program.
2009 INSPIRATIONAL FAMILY/MOTT HOSPITAL
Joseph Penrod is a six year old boy from Commerce Township who was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy in February 2008. Since his diagnosis, the Penrod family has been working to fund research and raise awareness of this disease. This year, Joseph Penrod is the inspiration that gives us the Passion for Life and the profits from this year’s run will benefit Muscular Dystrophy research at U of M C. S. Mott Children’s Hospital, Team Joseph/Penrod Family, and our Track and Field program. The Passion for Life Volunteer Team is committed to a successful event that has become an annual tradition for our community. An event that we can all be proud of and look forward to every year. Your passionate energy to support our community and this year’s inspirational family is the reason why this race is possible.

The research and care provided by children’s hospitals around the nation must be supported. We are confident that this event will be a great opportunity to involve the community in the healthy exercise of running/walking while supporting the temporary home that C. S. Mott Children’s Hospital is to so many families seeking hope, reassurance, and most importantly, good health for their children. Our Track and Field program is proud to be the initiative for this event and we are hopeful that all of the participants in this race will embrace and duplicate our energy and passion as well as that of all of our sponsors.

Just a warning: The concept may seem a bit strange and the video will probably be disturbing if you have never used one. Regardless of how crazy I probably looked today, hovering over my sink, I knew I had to share this with all of my fabulous readers. I may be behind the times, by only using it now, but I am so glad I bought it! The Neti Pot is only about $10 in many different brands and usually comes with the saline packets you need to use it. You can find it everywhere (CVS, Rite Aid, Kroger, Target, etc.) and it works better than most sinus medicines I have ever used. I felt better instantly and only seemed to feel more relief over the next hour. I can finally breathe! Amazing!
